Inviting

During this part of the rite, the officiant sends out an invitation for the deities to join them and the other participants. The deities we call, especially the Mothers, are always present of course, but this process invites them to be with us in a more focused and aware state. It also opens a two-way conversation between them and the people who are honoring them.

Once everyone is lined up, but before you begin the procession, start the ritual by blowing three blasts on a triton trumpet, rattling a sistrum in three short bursts, or striking three blows on a hand drum. Don’t use a metal gong or bell to begin the ritual unless Therasia is the only deity being honored in the rite.

Next, uncover the deity figurines and call to the deities. The Mothers are always invited in first, even if other deities will be the focus of the rite.

We invite Rhea, Therasia, Posidaeja, and [OTHER DEITY NAMES] to join us in this sacred rite.

Once you feel ready, you can continue.
